Dr. Stephan Gordts

Dr Stephan Gordts completed his studies at the Catholic University of Leuven where he completed his education in Obstetrics & Gynecology from 1973-1978.
At the Catholic University of Leuven he followed the training in microsurgery and participated in several international workshops at that time. As a reproductive surgeon and involved in fertility treatments, he was also closely involved in the creation of the first IVF baby in Belgium (1983)
He left the Catholic university of Leuven in 1984 and started a private fertility center.
He is co-founder and scientific chairman of the LIFE institute (Leuven Institute for Fertility & Embryology).

From 1992-1995, he worked as an associate professor in the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics at UCL, Brussels as the person in charge of the IVF unit.

He is the inventor of the Transvaginal Hydro Laparoscopy in which an examination of fallopian tubes and ovaries can be done in a minimally invasive way.
​
In 1998 he received the ASRM/IFFS award for his video contribution on: “Transvaginal Hydro Laparoscopy: Visualisation of oocyte release and fimbrial pick-up”

He is a member of several reproductive medical associations:
· Past Coordinator ESHRE-ART Centre Certification for good clinical practice (ARTCC)
· Past coordinator of the special interest group on reproductive surgery in ESHRE and the ESGE
· Past coordinator ESHRE certification reproductive endoscopic surgeon(ECRES)
· Past Coordinator of the task force on uterine congenital malformations (CONUTA) (collaboration ESHRE and ESGE)
