Transvaginal hydrolaparoscopy (THL)

Transvaginal hydro-laproscopy is a minimally invasive procedure. The technique is based on a needle puncture at the level of the vagina. A narrow endoscope (viewing instrument) can then be inserted through the needle. In this way, a complete visual inspection of the ovaries and fallopian tubes can be performed in patients with fertility problems. The procedure is done under sedation. After the treatment you will stay in the recovery room of our center for another 45 minutes, after which you can leave our service. Since the procedure is done under sedation, you are not allowed to drive a car yourself.

FAQ

Are there any side effects?

You may feel a mild lower abdominal pain after the procedure. You may use normal pain medication such as paracetamol for this. Light vaginal bleeding may occur. You should not have intercourse or use vaginal tampons for the first 48 hours.

Does the THL replace traditional keyhole surgery?

For simple exploration of the female pelvis, THL is equivalent to classic keyhole surgery or laparoscopy. Classic keyhole surgery, in which incisions are made in the abdominal wall, is more invasive and has more risks. This classic keyhole surgery is more indicated for carrying out larger surgical procedures.

Can the patency of the fallopian tubes be checked with THL?

Fallopian tube patency can be perfectly evaluated in THL. Even the condition of the mucous membrane of the fallopian tube can be evaluated in a simple manner, which is more difficult with classical keyhole surgery.
