Dr. Milie Nwoye is a US- and Belgian-board-certified gynaecologist with over 15 years of clinical experience and advanced fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology at UZ Brussel. She specialises in hormonal health, perimenopause, menopause and women's health throughout midlife, with a particular interest in evidence-based longevity medicine and chronic disease prevention.
At the LIFE Expert Center Leuven
At the LIFE Expert Center, Dr. Nwoye offers women living in Leuven and the surrounding region a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to menopause, midlife health and longevity.Whether you are experiencing unexplained symptoms, struggling despite previous treatments, concerned about your future health, or simply interested in taking a more proactive approach to healthy ageing, her goal is to help you understand what is happening in your body and identify practical, effective solutions. The objective is not merely to get through menopause, but to live well throughout it and beyond — while protecting your health for the decades ahead.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Nwoye contributes to the development of evidence-based menopause care in Belgium, including her work with the Vlaamse Vereniging voor Obstetrie en Gynaecologie (VVOG) on clinical guidelines. She also teaches in the postgraduate Menopause Consultant programme at Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences.
Her approach: Understanding the whole picture
Dr. Nwoye believes that perimenopause and menopause are normal stages of life, not diseases. However, the symptoms women experience during these transitions can significantly affect their health, well-being and quality of life.
Not every symptom occurring during menopause is caused by hormonal changes. Symptoms may be hormonal, non-hormonal or, as is often the case, a combination of both.
Her approach therefore begins with a fundamental question: What is actually causing these symptoms?
To answer this, she combines a detailed pre-consultation health questionnaire, a comprehensive assessment of relevant blood test results and an extended consultation. Together, these provide the time and information needed to systematically explore possible causes, identify contributing factors and develop an individualised treatment plan.
Hormone therapy may be part of the solution, but it is not always the whole solution. Sleep disturbances, metabolic health, psychological well-being, cardiovascular risk and other non-hormonal factors deserve equal attention.
Her philosophy is simple: women should not have to accept a diminished quality of life simply because they are entering perimenopause or menopause.
Beyond menopause: A proactive approach to longevity
Dr. Nwoye sees midlife as an important opportunity not only to address current symptoms, but also to protect long-term health and reduce the risk of chronic disease.
Her approach incorporates evidence-based preventive medicine, with particular attention to cardiovascular health, metabolic health, bone health, muscle strength, sleep, physical activity and other modifiable risk factors associated with healthy ageing.
Rather than waiting for disease to develop, she works with patients to identify individual risk factors, interpret relevant clinical findings and develop practical, sustainable strategies to reduce future health risks.
This is the principle behind her approach to longevity medicine: not simply extending lifespan, but extending healthspan — the years lived in good health, with physical function, independence and quality of life.
Importantly, this approach is grounded in established scientific evidence rather than unproven anti-ageing treatments or unnecessary testing.
What to expect from your consultation
A comprehensive consultation with Dr. Nwoye is more than the time spent together in the consulting room. It is a structured process designed to provide a thorough assessment, clear explanations and a personalised plan.
Before your appointment: You complete a detailed health questionnaire, allowing Dr. Nwoye to review your medical history, symptoms, concerns and goals in advance and prepare for your consultation.
During your appointment: An extended, in-depth consultation provides time to explore your symptoms, assess potential hormonal and non-hormonal causes, evaluate relevant investigations, identify long-term health risks and discuss appropriate treatment and prevention strategies.
After your appointment: You receive a written summary of the consultation, including the main findings, recommendations and agreed treatment plan.
Review of results: When additional investigations are required, results are reviewed and communicated by email, together with relevant recommendations.
Follow-up when needed: Some concerns can be addressed within a single comprehensive assessment, while others require further evaluation, treatment adjustments or a follow-up consultation.
This approach is intended to minimise fragmented care, avoid unnecessary consultations and ensure that each patient leaves with a clearer understanding of her health and the next steps.
